Just got back from a 9 day trip with the hammock + tarp stay tuned for photos and review There aren't any specific rain catcher clips but the water does tend to run down to the tie-out points at the bottom of the "hex" anyway so you could capture it. That's what I did, I just put my dirty pans under the ends and they filled up pretty quickly in light rain and made cleanup easy.by Skye - Hammock Chat
Just got my new rainfly/tarp in the mail, here's my initial impressions after stringing it up in my (very small) apartment. I'll post more updates after I take it into the wild wet yonder next week http://hennessyhammock.com/catalog/products/hex_rainfly_70d_polyester/ This tarp costs $60 + shipping so it's pretty inexpensive as hex tarps go, about the same price as a Kelty Noah's 9, excby Skye - Hammock Chat
Yeah, I kind of splurged. But I haven't bought any new cameras in a while so I guess it's ok Nice score on the cheap Desert Rat! Hopefully I can get by without an under- or top- quilt or that total is going to go up fast. Guess I could try to sew my own if it comes to that.by Skye - Hammock Chat
Any lasting damage to the panels? I suppose you could just put them on when needed. No problems attaching to a wet tarp?by Skye - Hammock Chat
Just had to share this awesome photo from http://www.westcoastpaddler.com/ Try that with a tentby Skye - Hiking
Dangerous to add things up, I know I've been trying to get the best bang for my buck, here's what I've spent so far. (including shipping - I spent extra for Express mail on the hammock) Warbonnet Blackbird double 1.1 $234.00 ($50 express ship) Hennessy Hex Rainfly Poly & Snakeskins XL $104.49 ($15 shipping) 1/2" x 27" x 74" CCF foam padby Skye - Hammock Chat
I got a Hennessy hex rainfly coming in the next couple of days, price is right and good coverage. The only downer is there's no side panel pull points! Any tips on adding them? Sounds kind of tricky for sewing newbs.by Skye - Hammock Chat
Boom.... bought my Warbird double 1.1 and Hennessy hex tarp today. Should be here in a couple days. Excited!! Heavy rainfall warning here tonight, 50mm (2" overnight, yeesh.by Skye - Hammock Chat
Went on a bit of a shopping spree Got 30 feet of 3mm Marlow Excel pro, it's just poly cover over poly strand core, but it's rated pretty high and it was cheap (and available locally! at Steveston Marine Supply @ Granville & 5th in Vancouver if anyone is looking) Found the Nite Ize Knotbones and Figure 9s at a different store (Sportchek/Atmosphere in downtown Vancouver) So tonightby Skye - Hammock Chat
I see, thanks for explaining. Where was the pic taken?by Skye - Motorcycle
Found this too, good read Pitching and Choosing A Hammock Tarp, Ridgelines and Guylines http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/showthread.php?t=16945 I didn't really understand the continuous ridgeline vs end tie-outs before, but now it's clear. I think I'll replace one of the ends in your setup with a Nite Ize figure 9 carabiner just so I have more line to work with if the trees are farby Skye - Hammock Chat
Hmm this is the same price http://hennessyhammock.com/catalog/products/hex_rainfly_70d_polyester/ Hex shape would give better cover in windy rain. Two extra guy lines to stake out, so a little extra setup time. Lighter than the Kelty and a little bigger. No side panel pulls, but could be added I guess. I like the white fabric of the Kelty better though, it would be brighter inside.by Skye - Hammock Chat
Here's another video series I found really informative, comparing suspension systems and describing some of the lightweight cord & knotwork systems in common useby Skye - Hammock Chat
It seems to me (hammock noob) that a hammock would be a big advantage on wet, coast, rain forest trails, since your hammock never touches the ground and the amount of undergrowth makes it hard to find flat spots. Anyone gone up the coast with a hammock? How did it work out? (Greetings from rainy Vancouver)by Skye - Hiking
Decided on the setup I'm going to buy..... - Warbonnet Blackbird Hammock (WBB - Double Layer 1.1 - Adjustable webbing suspension The rest of it I'll cobble together from existing camping gear. Also looking for a Kelty Noah's 9x9 tarp Anyone selling? I'm in Canada if that's a factorby Skye - Buy and Sell
Can you post a photo of your Kelty Noah's 9 set up if possible?by Skye - Hammock Chat
QuoteLaw Dawg (ret) This is how to tie a Prusik knot. It slides either way when the loop is 90 degrees to your main line but locks into place when pulled parallel to it. I tied four of these on a length of line (pick your poison for line) and two simple loop knots at the end of the line. I run the main line around the tree and attach with two mini biners to the outside Prusik knots...slide the Prby Skye - Hammock Chat
Not shy, just hate wet gear!! I just watched some Hammock setup videos and the fact that you can set them up easily without anything touching the ground... well I'm sold just on that. I hate breaking down and rolling up wet tents. My tent is so small you can't sit up very well, it's probably about the same as far as changing inside.by Skye - Hammock Chat
Watching these now... what a jokerby Skye - Hammock Chat
I'll have to check out those bungees you mentioned, sounds like just the ticket. I'm not real good with knots (yet) Thanks a bunch for taking the time to explain it though. I'm sure it will make more sense when I've got it in front of me This method seems to make sense. I just need to watch more knot videos!by Skye - Hammock Chat
Yeah, the 12 does look like slight overkill. The 9 diamond setup gives you enough dry space to get your gear packed, change clothes etc in heavy rain?by Skye - Hammock Chat
I like that you can have the WBBB open on top, you can't do that with the bottom entry Hennessy can you? Nice to be able to use it as a seat too, maybe. At least, it will be nice in the Autumn after the frosts come and kill all the mosquitos This review is pretty damn thorough.... http://www.backpackgeartest.org/reviews/Shelters/Hammocks/Warbonnet%20Outdoors%20Blackbird%20Hammock/Test%by Skye - Motorcycle
Yeah it's me again with more questions Important note: this is for motorbike camping so ultra light weight is not an issue. My wallet is kind of ultra light weight these days so price is an issue. I'm pretty much settled on the hammock I want (WBBB 1.1 dbl) so now I need to pick a tarp. The Warbonnet tarps are way out of my price range, so I'm looking at cheaper options like the Kelty Noby Skye - Hammock Chat
OK, this diagram is starting to make sense. I'm guessing this would work fine with the standard Warband webbing setup. To be honest I haven't learned what whoopie straps are yet hahaby Skye - Hammock Chat
Alright, I guess I'll kick things off What's a fast way to set up a ridgeline for your tarp? This method was described over at ADVRider by Law Dawg: QuoteLaw Dawg BTW my single ridgeline is a piece of line (find some that works for you) and four Prusik knotts. The ends have two simple loop knots (it will not need to hold that much weight) for the two outside Prusiks. Run the ends aroundby Skye - Hammock Chat

Lol, like the username... Maybe there should be a cycling forum too at some point? Kayaking? But then don't want to split hairs, it's early days.by Skye - Hammock Chat
For sure, tying it off to the ground would be essential. It looks like it's attached to the bike, then another strap going to the ground. Could maybe just run the strap over the handlebars to the ground directly, I saw somewhere a setup where they ran the strap over a notched post, and even with the post not buried in the ground it was stable. Counter-intuitive, but there was a photo witby Skye - Motorcycle
Bummer, MEC isn't going to have any in stock until the 13th. Damn, maybe I should just bit the bullet and order the Blackbird online now. You never know how long a package is going to take to get through customs. Stupid borderby Skye - Motorcycle
Huh this looks like it would work pretty good... from a post over on ADVRiderby Skye - Motorcycle
